Original Paintings

The early years

Art has always been an important part of my life. From an early age, I remember experimenting with different mediums, such as crayons, water paints, pastels and charcoals. I loved seeing how each one created contrasting textures and effects.

A very early recollection (I was about 9 years old) of my first finished piece of art, was a still life watercolour painting of a cyclamen plant. I created it for my mother, who at the time, was recovering in hospital following an operation. Wanting to cheer her up her during a visit, I remember excitedly holding onto my first “masterpiece” as I entered the room and then seeing her eyes light up the moment they fell upon the painting. And that was it, I was hooked on painting and drawing for life.

My first paid commission came from my sports coach at senior school (I was sporty back then, believe it or not!). I was about 15 and remember her commenting on my work when she visited our art rooms. A few days later, she asked if I would paint her a portrait of her rescue greyhound, who was sadly very old and nearing the end of his life. I vividly recall how emotional she was, when a few weeks later, I presented her with the final piece. She was extremely touched to have an everlasting memory of her special boy.

Starting my first business

After studying all forms of art and photography throughout school and higher education, I set up my first business as a fine artist. I took a variety of incredible commissions from equine portraits to abstract pieces, which were sold to high end hotels across the UK and abroad. I also created a range of botanical note-let cards from my original watercolour paintings, which I also sold throughout the UK and abroad.

The majority of my portrait and still life work was created from studies of photographs I had taken and this is where my love of photography really grew. After my first child was born in 2010, and after a lot of requests from my local community, I set up my own photography studio and set about making a name for myself as a fine art portrait photographer. A year or so after setting up, I found a passion for fine art portraiture focussed working within the modelling and acting industry, where I created exquisite and unique headshots for my clients.

Not long after running my photography studio, I joined the Master Photography Association, were I rapidly moved up the ranks earning, not only a licentiate within a year, but also becoming an award winning Associate, with my submitted panel of fine art portraiture.
