FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

1) Are you Insured?

I have full public liability and professional indemnity insurance.

2) How do I book a session?

Just give me a call on 07834 74605 or email me elizabethgphotoart@gmail.com to make a booking and I can check the diary. Weekend dates are very popular and get booked about six-eight weeks in advance.

3) Can I book a session as a gift for someone else?

This is a very popular method. I offer gift vouchers for you to personalise to give to a friend, family member of loved one.

4) When do we pay for our shoot?

The session fee is payable when you book your photographic session and this secures your date and time in the diary. This fee is non-refundable, but fully transferable to another date if no less than 72 hours notice is given. Dates are unable to be secured until payment has been received. Prints and albums are paid for at the time of your viewing/ordering appointment, which is booked approximately 2 weeks after your photoshoot.

5) What happens if we need to reschedule?

There is no charge for rescheduling providing you give at least 72 hours notice. However, if you provide less notice and still want to reschedule, a new session fee will be applicable and payable in order to secure your new appointment.  Only one complimentary rescheduled session is available and must take place within three months of the original booking or will incur a new session fee.

6) Who owns the copyright of the images?

Under the copyright and patents act of 1988, Elizabeth G Fine Art Photography retains the copyright of all images taken. It is a criminal offence to copy, screen grab, scan or reproduce photographs without written consent by Elizabeth.  If you purchase digital files, you are granted a licence to use your images for personal use. Your purchased files can then be used for sharing with your friends and family on social media sites (watermarked copies will be provided for this purpose), for updating model or acting portfolios and printing out for yourself, family and friends. These images are not to be sold or given to any third parties without prior consent by Elizabeth. (Please enquire for details on how to purchase license of images for commercial use).  Images that are purchased as digital files are not to be altered in any way that change the integrity of the image without prior consent.

Images taken in photographic sessions may be used by Elizabeth G Fine Art Photography for display or marketing purposes. This could include social media, marketing literature, or galleries on this website. This is for the purpose of promoting my photography so clients can see the style of work I create. If you would prefer your child’s images not to be displayed in this way please let me know in writing when you book your photographic session.

The use of video recording and your own camera (including phone cameras) is strictly forbidden during your photographic session.

By booking a photographic session at Elizabeth G Fine Art Photography, you are agreeing to all the above terms and conditions and I thank you for your respect.

7) Do you provide packages of just images on a disc?

I’m afraid this is something I do not offer.  Your portraits are priceless and for you to treasure for the rest of your life. The quality of the prints and albums I create are truly stunning. You can purchase the high-resolution files, if you wish, but this is in addition to your print or album purchase.  I can provide low resolution and tastefully watermarked images to allow you to show off your fabulous photos to all your friends and family by email or via social networking sites. High resolution images are also available upon request.

7a) Why can’t I just buy high resolution digitals without prints?

A digital photo isn’t just a bunch of pixels. It’s my creation, my vision, my art. I carefully plan it, capture it, and edit it, until it represents my signature style that I am well known for. Ultimately, I want to ensure you receive the highest quality artwork from your portrait session to be proud of in your home, as this is also a reflection of my work as an artist.

Several factors are considered with the release of a high resolution file that include reproductive rights and these are:

  1. Printing. Where will your prints made? My professional printing lab only work with image professionals to create stunning prints and beautiful wall art.
As a specialist Fine Art Printing company, their beautiful prints are at the core of what they produce. Archival Pigment Process combined with some of the best archival materials on the market ensure they output the very finest quality. High street or home printers cannot offer the same quality and ultimately, do not represent my fine art work in all of its true beauty.

  2. Size. Will you choose a print size that’s appropriate to the file size and quality?

  3. Cropping. If your chosen print size requires cropping (eg 8×10”) will you honour my composition? Will you check cropping that wont unexpectedly cut off limbs for example?

  4. Sharpening. Will the sharpening applied to the file be appropriate to your chosen print method and size?

  5. Calibration. Uncalibrated screens will not present accurate colours and will therefore output incorrect tones on the final image.

8) Do you archive the images and if so, for how long?

Images are held onsite at the studio for up to 6 weeks after a shoot has taken place. Due to the volume of images created during each session, space must be kept available on my machine for current sessions only.

They are then archived off-site and are never deleted. However, please note that a lifetime guarantee is NOT provided. A small administration fee of £35 is payable for retrieving images once they have been archived.

9) Do you carry spare equipment?

I always have spare equipment should anything happen.

10) What methods of payment do you accept?

I accept cheque, cash and payment by bank transfer. Payment can also be made by debit and credit cards.  Please note that if paying by Paypal or credit card, a 3.5% fee will be added to the invoice.

Newborn Sessions

11) When do newborn sessions take place?

Newborn sessions are scheduled before baby reaches 10 days new. This is done for many reasons. Newborns this young are more likely to “curl up” and remain sleepy for the duration of the session. They are much more tolerant of being posed and moved around than a 3 or 4 week old. Almost all of the “sleepy newborn” shots you see here on the website were done with newborns 14 days old or younger. If your baby is older than 2 weeks, don’t worry, we can still capture beautiful photos.

12) How long does a newborn session last?

Newborn sessions often run long due to the nature and frequent nurturing of the infant, expect approximately 2-3 hours maximum. I do not rush the session, I let baby take as many breaks as needed. Baby’s comfort and safety is my number one priority.

13) Can I bring something special like an heirloom or prop to the session?

Yes! I encourage my clients to bring a little something to incorporate in the session to make it more “them”. Whether your a huge sports enthusiast, or a military member, I will do my best to include this in the photos.

14) Can I request specific poses?

Yes, you can. I will make every attempt to get you what you want in terms of poses; however there are certain poses, that in my own opinion, are unsafe and pose harm to the baby. These poses, I will not do. Again, baby is my number one priority.

15) Can siblings and parents be in a few shots?

Of course, I do recommend that siblings and anyone who is not mum or dad and is wanting to be in photos with baby, come the last 30-60 minutes of the session. The session does last a few hours and little ones tend to get cranky having to wait around (my little one would too!).

16) Is there anything else I should remember to bring?

A dummy!  These are GOLD in keeping them asleep and relaxed!

Family Sessions

17) What if my children are a bit excitable and wont sit still?

I’m a parent to two lively youngsters and, as such, have the ability to entertain children and make them laugh. The sessions are always very relaxed and even if it takes the children a while to settle, I always get the all important shots for my clients.  Please rest assured, there’s no reason to worry!

18) Do you have a makeup artist and hair stylist?

I have some excellent make up artists and stylists that I regularly use. Feel free to contact me for more details.

19) Can we include our pet in the photoshoot?

Pets are important too! They are part of the family after all! Pets are absolutely welcome in the studio!

20) Is there anything we need to bring with us to the shoot?

I always ask my clients to bring a couple of outfit changes and any props that tell a story about you/your hobby and interests as a family. Please contact me in advance for more guidance on what to bring to your specific session.

21) How much direction will we receive during our session?

I am happy to offer tips and advice on how to stand/sit as well as capture natural poses. I’m equally happy to be client led if they have any specific requests.

22) What if myself or any of my family/friends are uncomfortable in front of the camera?

You are not alone.  I am happy to talk through any concerns and am confident, with my fun and gentle approach, you will put at ease.

VIEWING AND ORDERING APPOINTMENTS

23) Preparing for your viewing

I highly recommend doing a little preparation before you arrive for your viewing and ordering appointment, in order that you have all the information you need before placing your order.  These are some things you can do beforehand:

1. Have a list of family and friends you'd like to give prints to as gifts.

2. Have an idea of rooms where you plan to hang your wall art and where possible, please measure those spaces and take photos of any existing frames you wish to match.

3. Some clients spend 30min and others and 1-2 hours planning their order.

4. Due to the nature of the bespoke items being ordered, refunds are not available and products cannot be altered afterwards.

24) How long after the shoot will we see the images?

Approximately 2-3 weeks after your photo shoot, I invite you back to my studio for your complimentary viewing and ordering session to see your pictures. At this appointment, you will see a selection of the best images from your photoshoot, which have been colour-corrected, cropped, edited with my signature fine art style and ready to show you. The slideshow is set to beautiful music, so all you need to do is sit back, relax and enjoy reviewing all your beautiful images with a nice cup of tea or coffee.

A viewing usually lasts for about 1-2 hours, so I do ask that all decision makers are present at this meeting.  This is where I help guide you through all the possible framing options and print collections that I offer, is your opportunity to place your orders and is when full payment is taken.  Orders are usually ready to collect from the studio approximately 3-4 weeks later.  For information purposes, any subsequent viewing and ordering appointments booked thereafter are charged at £40 per appointment.

25) Why are viewings at the studio?

At the studio my large screen is colour calibrated, therefore, you will be able to see the images exactly as they will look as your final product. I also have software to help make your decisions.

26) Can you Photoshop images to remove scratches, bruises and skin blemishes?

I offer "light" retouching services only on purchased images at no extra change.  Please note, however, any heavy edits or more complicated changes including hair retouching, removing objects or changes to backgrounds, incur a fee of £20 per hour.

27) Can friends and family order photos after viewing?

Once you have placed an order, I can provide a private link on my website for friends and family to see your pictures.  The images will be live for 48 hours.

28) Is there any obligation to buy anything after the shoot?

There is absolutely no pressure to make a purchase, however, I think you’ll find it hard not to choose timeless memories from a beautiful selection.
